Rhea and Shaker Puppies 5 Weeks

Jul 12, 2026

Our puppies are now 5 weeks old, and another exciting milestone has been reached! They have transitioned from blended puppy food to soft whole kibble. They are digesting it very well and are still enjoying nursing time with Mom.

Their curiosity is growing every day. They love watching us move around the room, taking in everything that's happening around them. They are little sponges, always learning something new!

This week they've also started learning about stairs using a small children's step. We introduce this very carefully and keep it to a minimum, as too much stair climbing isn't ideal for growing hips and elbows. Right now it's all about building confidence and coordination.

This litter continues to be a very quiet group. They're not big on the "woof woof" just yet! Instead, they've discovered that my toes and hair make the most entertaining toys.

Watching them play together is absolutely adorable. They do the classic puppy play bow with their little bums up in the air, and just when you think they're about to launch into a huge pounce, they gently hop toward each other instead. It's impossible not to smile.

Like all siblings, they're also learning that not everyone wants to play at the same time. Some are ready for a wrestling match while others are trying to catch a nap, which makes for some entertaining puppy disagreements!

We've finally been able to spend some time outdoors. The weather has been quite warm, so we keep our outdoor adventures short and carefully supervised. They're enjoying exploring new sights, sounds, and smells one little adventure at a time.

We can't wait to see what next week brings as these little personalities continue to blossom! 💛🐶
